   5 <p>If you are reading this then you will already have seen some of the recent changes
   6   made to Jalview.<br>
   7   Jalview takes advantage of some of the more recent user interface developments
   8   in the Java programming language. For instance Jalview is now a multi windowed
   9   application, this keeps all your Jalview windows neatly together in one main
  10   application window. </p>
  11 <p>If you were familiar with the original Jalview, here is a list of important
  12   features you should know about the current development:</p>
  13 <ul>
  14   <li>Editing sequences is no longer the default when mouse clicking the alignment.
  15     Instead, mouse clicking on the alignment creates a &quot;selection region&quot;
  16     which may be full sequences or groups of residues.</li>
  17   <li>To insert or edit the gaps in one sequence in alignment, the
  18   &quot;Shift&quot; key must be held down when dragging the mouse.</li>
  19   <li>To insert or edit gaps for a group of sequences, the
  20   &quot;Alt&quot; key (or in X windows the &quot;Control&quot;
  21     key) must be held down.</li>
  22   <li>Selecting colour schemes in the colour menu either sets just the
  23   &quot;background&quot; colourscheme for the alignment, or - when
  24   the tickbox &quot;Apply colour to all groups&quot; is ticked,
  25   applies the scheme to the background and all groups defined on the alignment.</li>
  26   <li>Use the right mouse button (apple and click on the Mac) whilst
  27   the pointer is within the selection area to access the &quot;define&quot; region menu to
  28   define a new region, give it a name, and change its colourscheme and display
  29   properties.</li>
  30   <li>Conservation is automatically updated whenever the alignment is edited</li>
  31   <li>There is no &quot;quick draw&quot; option</li>
  32   <li>Edits can be undone, and redone!</li>
